Selank vs Semax: two nasal peptides from different origins

Selank and Semax were both studied mainly by Russian research groups, both carry nasal routes in PinPoint's library, and both are searched as rivals. Their origins differ: one is related to the immune peptide tuftsin, the other is built from a fragment of a pituitary hormone. This page compares them on origin, evidence and arithmetic.

What are Selank and Semax, and what does selank vs semax ask?

Selank is a synthetic tuftsin-related heptapeptide studied in anxiety research [4][1]. Semax is a heptapeptide corresponding to the ACTH(4-10) sequence, Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro, an analogue of a fragment of the pituitary hormone ACTH [3]. PinPoint's library lists both as limited human research, logged by nasal or subcutaneous route, with 10 mg package examples and 45-minute low-confidence half-life inputs [4].

The comparison raises two questions: which one is linked to anxiety and which to focus, and what amounts are used. Those are claims about effects, and the sources below are small, mostly regional studies. What can be compared fairly is where each came from, what populations were studied and how their vials convert.

What do Selank and Semax studies report?

The library's Selank source is a 2008 Russian study of 62 patients with generalized anxiety disorder or neurasthenia, comparing Selank in 30 with the benzodiazepine medazepam in 32 [1]. The authors reported similar anxiety-reducing effects for both, with additional anti-fatigue and stimulating effects attributed to Selank, and changes in a blood enkephalin-degradation measure. A second 2008 source examined Selank in rats exposed to low oxygen before birth [2].

The Semax source is a 2006 rat study that labelled the peptide with tritium and gave it into the nose [3]. Two minutes later, 0.093% of the given radioactivity per gram was found in brain tissue, mostly as intact Semax. The peptide then broke down quickly, with the tripeptide Pro-Gly-Pro dominating the samples.

So the human data are one comparison study for Selank and none for Semax in the library, and Semax's fast breakdown is a rat finding. The 45-minute inputs for both are tracking estimates [4]. The Selank paper also does not state its route of administration, so its human findings cannot be tied to the nasal route that searches assume [1].

How are nasal Selank and Semax amounts measured?

Both 10 mg package examples convert identically. In a hypothetical 2 mL of liquid, each is 5 mg/mL, or 5,000 mcg/mL, so 0.1 mL holds 500 mcg [4][5]. This example records nasal entries in micrograms, so the useful number is micrograms per 0.1 mL rather than syringe units.

Drops and sprays add an unknown: the volume of one drop or one actuation depends on the dropper or pump. A device that delivers 0.05 mL per spray would deliver half of 500 mcg, 250 mcg, from that solution, but that per-spray volume has to come from the device, not from this page [5]. The peptide calculator handles the vial division; the device supplies the rest.

10 mg ÷ 2 mL = 5,000 mcg/mL
0.1 mL × 5,000 mcg/mL = 500 mcg
per spray = device volume × concentration
Selank and Semax: 0.5 mg in 0.1 mL of each solutionSelank: 10 mg in 2 mL is 5 mg per mL, so 0.1 mL holds 0.5 mg. Semax: 10 mg in 2 mL is 5 mg per mL, so 0.1 mL holds 0.5 mg. SELANK AND SEMAX: 0.5 MG IN 0.1 ML OF EACH SOLUTION Selank: 10 mg ÷ 2 mL = 5 mg/mL; 0.1 mL = 0.5 mg 0 TO 1 mL; MARKED 0.1 mL Semax: 10 mg ÷ 2 mL = 5 mg/mL; 0.1 mL = 0.5 mg 0 TO 1 mL; MARKED 0.1 mL

How do people log Selank or Semax in PinPoint?

PinPoint's library includes nasal routes alongside injection, oral, topical and sublingual ones, so a Selank or Semax entry records the route as nasal with the amount in mcg or mg [6][4]. Vial setup accepts sizes in mg or mcg with the liquid volume and shows concentration [6].

Once-daily, twice-daily or custom schedules carry reminders at the chosen times [6]. With 45-minute inputs, the Home curve shows each entry falling back within a few hours; that is a modeled estimate and a mathematical visualization, not a measured brain or blood level [4][6].

What do people ask about Selank and Semax?

What is the difference between Selank and Semax?
Selank is a synthetic peptide related to tuftsin, studied in anxiety research. Semax corresponds to a fragment of ACTH, a pituitary hormone, and was studied in rats after nasal use. The library lists nasal and subcutaneous routes for both.
Has Selank been studied in people?
The library cites a 2008 study of 62 patients with generalized anxiety disorder or neurasthenia that compared Selank with medazepam. It is a single, small regional study.
How fast does Semax break down?
In the cited rat study, intact Semax reached brain tissue within two minutes of nasal use and then degraded quickly, mostly to Pro-Gly-Pro. No human half-life is given.
How many mcg are in 0.1 mL of a 10 mg Selank vial?
In 2 mL of liquid, the solution holds 5,000 mcg/mL, so 0.1 mL holds 500 mcg. The amount per drop or spray depends on the device volume.
Are Selank and Semax approved medicines?
Neither has an FDA label. The library lists both as limited human research, and its sources are a small regional patient study for Selank and a rat kinetics study for Semax.
