Unit arithmetic
GLP-1 dosing in units
How many milligrams are in 20 units of tirzepatide? There is no single answer without the concentration. On a U-100 syringe scale, 20 units is a volume of 0.20 mL. Multiplying that volume by the solution concentration in mg/mL gives the amount in milligrams. This page is arithmetic for reading known values, not a weight-loss dose schedule or an instruction to prepare medication. Arithmetic

Three quantities that do different jobs
Milligrams describe an amount of substance. Milliliters describe liquid volume. A U-100 scale divides one milliliter into one hundred marked units, so one unit represents 0.01 mL. That scale statement does not identify the liquid in the syringe. The active ingredient and the concentration must come from the actual product information; neither is encoded by the word units. Arithmetic
The calculation has two steps. First, divide the total milligrams by the final volume in milliliters to obtain mg/mL. Second, multiply that concentration by the volume represented by the syringe marking. For a U-100 scale, volume is units divided by one hundred. Keeping the intermediate volume visible makes it possible to see whether an error concerns the concentration or the interpretation of the scale. Arithmetic
What 20 units contains at example concentrations
The tables use representative round-number vial and final-volume combinations, not verified popular recipes or pharmacy instructions. A water-volume entry in a calculator is a numerical input; the examples assume the stated final solution volume. They make no claim about which diluent, formulation, preparation process, or dose is appropriate. Different labeled concentrations require their own calculation. Arithmetic
At 10 mg in 2 mL, concentration is 5 mg/mL. Twenty units becomes 0.20 mL, and 0.20 multiplied by 5 is 1 mg. With the same 10 mg in 4 mL, concentration is halved to 2.5 mg/mL and the amount in 20 units is 0.5 mg. The marking did not change; the amount per milliliter did. Arithmetic

Reading a dose request in the other direction
The inverse equation starts with an already specified milligram amount: milligrams divided by mg/mL gives milliliters, then multiplying by one hundred gives U-100 units. For example, 1 mg divided by 5 mg/mL is 0.20 mL, or 20 units. This merely reverses the earlier example. The number 1 mg is an arithmetic input, not a suggested tirzepatide amount. Arithmetic
A calculation can return more than a syringe holds or a marking that is difficult to represent. The arithmetic table makes no claim about device suitability. It also does not round a medication quantity to an available line. The useful result is an explicit relationship among amount, concentration, and volume, which can be checked against the actual prescribed product. Arithmetic
Approved products have their own presentations
Tirzepatide is sold as Mounjaro and Zepbound. Their current labels include single-dose and multi-dose presentations with product-specific volumes and instructions. The tirzepatide dose schedule describes the labeled amounts and escalation conditions; the present page instead explains volume arithmetic. A compounded product is not identified as equivalent to a branded one merely because a calculation uses the same ingredient name. Mounjaro labelZepbound label
Keep conversion inputs beside the dose record
PinPoint accepts a vial amount and water volume for concentration and syringe-unit conversion. It also provides a fill-line guide for supported insulin-syringe sizes, dose logging, and vial or pen supply tracking. Recording the inputs as well as the result makes a later review more intelligible than a note containing only a bare number of units. The calculator link below offers the same kind of input-based arithmetic on the website. App features

Questions
Does 20 units always mean 1 mg of tirzepatide?
Only when the concentration is 5 mg/mL on the U-100 scale used here. At 2.5 mg/mL, 20 units contains 0.5 mg; at 10 mg/mL it contains 2 mg. Arithmetic
Is a units table a weight-loss dosing plan?
No. This table calculates liquid amounts from stated concentrations. It does not choose a milligram dose, set escalation timing, or supply instructions for preparing a vial. Arithmetic
